As long as we’re on a “John getting fitted for his Gemini suit” thing today (thanks to lightthiscandle, who sent me THE GREATEST PHOTOSET), I would like to share with y’all my all time favorite picture of John in the history of cameras and film and the universe.
I REALLY, REALLY love this picture. Don’t ask me how come, I just do. I really do.

(Side note: I think talking to John on the phone would be a very weird and sort of awkward experience. Lots of dead air.)

The Boca Raton News rather prematurely crowns John Young the “Grand Old Man of [the] Space Race” at only 50 years of age.
Also, there are some really funny observations, such as how thin John is, and how he’s best-known (for better or worse) for eating corned beef in space and farting on the moon.
“Crippen calls it a privilege to fly with someone who’s got that much experience and knowledge. But no, he says, he has never sought Young’s reassurance about the safety of the flight.
“‘Actually,’ Young chimes in, ‘he reassures me.’”
